    We got a long convoluted, but quite interesting dialogue going on in another thread, but I thought it might be good for me to try and summarize the most important points, from my perspective.

    Let the conversation continue.   :- )

    Dear Mr. GOP,

    Please explain why an unborn fetus is more important than the matriarch and foundation of my family and memories?

    Killing is a horrid thing, yet Mr. GOP justifies it under a thousand guises, pleading the sacred right to “self-defense” –  It’s called justifiable homicide.   Why not label abortion, justifiable homicide?

    Where is your ethical and moral justification for making abortion the supreme sin of all?  (Yet, all the while dismissing as irrelevant our destroying untold thousands of living innocents and vibrant neighbors in other nations?)

    But that’s not enough, Mr. and Mrs. Republican then has this need to play God and invade a woman’s most privates and strip that woman of her rights to Self-Defense and Self-Determination.

    How do you ethically morally justify that?

    Why is a woman’s anguished abortion a worse sin than having our Made In USA weapons of mass destruction feeding senseless escalating violence throughout the world?

    Where is your moral authority, and no, an ancient text and you having the hubristic conceit that you are in contact with the God Almighty, Creator of Light and Time, Life and Love, isn’t enough!  Read your Bible the actual God of life is BEYOND OUR UNDERSTANDING!  We’ve making it all up as we’ve gone along.

    The GOP’s attitude towards woman is every bit as barbaric as Islamic’s horrendous viciousness towards their woman.  So I’m asking where do you get off?

    ~~~
    {I also wondering why don’t liberals and progressives have more backbone and finally stand up to these absolutists and wannabe totalitarians with thoughtful, yet firm intellectual confrontation and education?}
    Nobody said a fetus is more important than a “matriarch”.  Pregnant woman is the term you’re looking for.
    That said, thatoneguy, the fetus is more important than the woman for the anti-lifers. They say they are pro-life they aren’t. They don’t care if the woman dies during childbirth, but if that parasite in her womb dies, the woman is in trouble, even if it’s not her fault.
    But Stardust says that the entity that is feeding off of the pregnant woman is a living human being, IF its brain is developed to a certain point (I’m not clear on when that point exactly is but it is important since after that point, the woman could be subject to the death penalty, along with the medical ppl who help her, for exercising her choice.)  Stardust seems very sure about this.
    But then, someone else could claim to be very sure that human life does not begin until complex verbal behavior is developed (as this is what separates humans from most other animals).   In that case, a woman would have a choice to abort retroactively until the entity is around age 2 or, often, after. I know that sounds cruel as the little ones are typically so cute, but one arbitrary point at which brain development establishes the beginning of human life, seems as valid as another.
    For sure I would think that by age 25, the brain is pretty much as well formed as it’s gonna get, and the entity is, then, no doubt, a human life, and should no longer be subject to retroactive abortion.
    Young ‘uns would be more sure to be nice to their mothers until reaching their 25th birthday.
    ROFL. That’s too funny TimB. Actually, I think the decision to carry a pregnancy to term or not should be up to the woman and between her and her doctor. Not up to strangers, especially men, in congress and/or at the pulpit.
    Makes sense to me.
    Sure you have.  You don’t draw any distinction beyond woman.  You would certainly include an older matriarch in your condemnation.
    Besides I like the way it sounds.  Do you know what it means?   A woman who is the head of a family or tribe.  Very important person.  Yes very much more important than an unborn fetus that hasn’t even achieved personhood yet.  Not meaning no disrespect to the fetus, but physical and pragmatic reality is just that, reality to live by.
