The Center for Inquiry is proud to announce the election of veteran activist and organizer Y. Sherry Sheng to its Board of Directors. Sheng comes to CFI with decades of experience in fighting for important causes, rejuvenating organizations, and with a love of science and nature.
Sherry Sheng has worked for and on behalf of numerous organizations in a wide array of roles, including naturalist, curator, professor, administrator, and director. She has successfully championed causes such as environmental and wildlife protection, sustainability and economic development, and public policy covering areas from telecommunications to financial regulation. Throughout it all, she has proved herself to be a strong leader with an ability to communicate and execute on a long-range vision.
“I see myself as an advocate for my causes, ranging from habitat and species conservation to community development,” said Sheng “Although the audiences have varied from role to role, be they the general public, policy makers, or donors, the central part of my job has always been enlisting support for meaningful change.”
“We’re truly fortunate to have Sherry Sheng join our Board of Directors,” said Robyn Blumner, CEO of the Center for Inquiry. “With the ongoing merger with the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason & Science, CFI is expanding in its ambitions and public presence. Having the benefit of Sherry’s wisdom and guidance as we grow will prove invaluable.”
Sheng holds a master’s in fisheries biology from the University of Washington, a bachelor’s in zoology from National Taiwan University, and is fluent in Chinese. She served as deputy director of the Oregon Economic & Community Development Department, as a committee administrator for the Oregon State Senate, as director of the Oregon Zoo, and much more. In her retirement, she has been volunteering her talents with several non-profit organizations, serving as chair of the West Linn Library Foundation, and teaching classes as an Oregon State University Master Gardener™.
