The Society for Science-Based Medicine was formed in 2013 to serve as a community for experts and advocates working to support evidence, science, and consumer safety in health care, and to fight back against the creep of pseudoscience and quackery.
Their cause has never been more vital than it is right now, as the world faces down a global pandemic and an accompanying flood of medical misinformation. It’s a mission we at CFI have always shared with SFSBM.
That’s why we’re proud to let you know that the Society for Science-Based Medicine is now a part of the Center for Inquiry.
As a repository of resources and information for health professionals, legislators, activists, businesses, and consumers, SFSBM has worked to provide the reality-based community with the tools and talent needed to advance science-based medicine and stop the flood of junk science and snake oil.
Now these resources will have a home with CFI. SFSBM joins our growing family of programs and initiatives dedicated to advancing science-based medicine and countering dangerous pseudoscience, including Skeptical Inquirer magazine and Skeptical Inquirer Presents online events, the legislative efforts of CFI’s Office of Public Policy and our groundbreaking consumer protection lawsuits over the fraud of homeopathy, the CFI Coronavirus Resource Center, and, of course, Quackwatch.
SFSBM content will begin integrating into the Center for Inquiry website in the coming weeks, as the Science-Based Medicine blog carries on its vital work independently.
The mission of the Society for Science-Based Medicine is now CFI’s mission. It always has been, and now we are better positioned than ever to carry it out.
Fighting quackery and pseudoscience during a global pandemic is an enormous challenge, and it’s going to take all of us working together to make a difference. Be a part of our society, and support science-based medicine with us today.
