Yesterday, CFI gave its official response to the election of Pope Francis, mainly in the context of social issues, Meanwhile, Argentina’s “Dirty War” dogs the new pope.

A bill in the US House by Rep. Jim Bridenstine of Oklahoma calls for protecting religious minorities in the Arab world. Though it does not mention anything about the nonreligious, it does call for an end to blasphemy laws.

Resolved, That the House of Representatives–

(1) recognizes, in this spirit of Arab Spring revolution, that religious minority freedoms and rights must be protected; and

(2) urges in the strongest terms that the United States Government lead the international effort to repeal existing blasphemy laws.

Clinton: Anti-Defamation Laws Restrict Freedom of Speech
Office of Public Policy
November 3, 2009

On Monday, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke out against anti-defamation laws around the world, stating that she "strongly disagree[s]" with that type of policy. She did so during the unveiling of the State Department’s annual report on international religious freedom. Many supporters of freedom of religion were excited by her speech, but many …

Unco Junto: The Nature of Hypocrisy
July 21, 2017

Hypocrisy seems to be a running theme on the news and in social media, especially in the political sphere. But what is the nature of hypocrisy? Michael Hartwell, Ian Harris, and Celestia Ward join me in examining the question.

You may have heard that Glenn Beck has now endorsed Hillary Clinton, but this is not quite right. He did, however, give the go-ahead to vote for her:

It is not acceptable to ask a moral, dignified man to cast his vote to help elect an immoral man who is absent decency or dignity [Trump, obvs]. If the consequence of standing against Trump and for principles is indeed the election of Hillary Clinton, so be it. At least it is a moral, ethical choice.

The Atheist AND Christian War on Christmas
December 12, 2018

I happen to think the “War on Christmas” is a hyped-up Fox News (sic) creation that lines up nicely with the rest of their business model: convince the American public that something dear to them is in imminent danger of being ripped from their bosoms – so they’ll keep watching… Fox News.

The rippers are, variously, the liberals, Hillary Clinton, socialism, Nancy Pelosi, the left, Hillary Clinton, the atheists, Barak Obama, everyone in California, and Hillary Clinton.

But this war is really more like a highly localized skirmish, and there is at least a little blame to go around for people being uptight during this time of year. So here I will attempt to straighten things out with some frank talk to both the Christians who think Satan’s minions (and Hillary) are trying to put a halt to everything Christmas, and to the atheists who become enraged every time they see Santa Claus.

Obama Adminstration Steps Up Defense of LGBT Rights Abroad

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton defends equal rights for LGBT persons at UN, while President Obama directs all agencies engaged in diplomacy efforts to ensure U.S. is promoting and protecting the rights of LGBT persons.

“Hillary’s White House Dreams Shattered?”
August 12, 2016

The other day I saw an alarming headline: “Hillary’s White House Dreams Shattered?” Aghast that Clinton’s campaign was in such serious jeopardy, and I began reading the piece, by K. O’Donnell of the Health Sciences Institute. It did strike me as odd that someone from a health sciences institute would be reporting on politics, but nonetheless, the details that O’Donnell offered were alarming.

Don’t Boo, Goat!

Deep breath. Did you vote? You’re gonna, right? I totally did. But I think I may have accidentally voted for Pat Buchanan. Hashtag-jokes-from-16-years-ago.

Holy crap was that actually 16 years ago?

Anyway, this psychic goat says Hillary Clinton will be elected. However, a monkey, some dogs, and a shark have predicted the race for Donald Trump. Me, I tend to trust goats more, but the facts in favor of a Trump victory are compelling. So who knows.

Hard for a Normal Person

At the mercifully-final debate last night, Donald Trump refused to commit to accepting the results of the presidential election, even when pressed by Chris Wallace. “I will look at it at the time. I will keep you in suspense.” This of course hinges on Trump’s frequent claims that there is a conspiracy to deny him the presidency. There was also stuff about “bad hombres” and calling Hillary Clinton both “a puppet” for no reason, and “a nasty woman.”

John Podesta (chaired the 2016 Clinton campaign, was chief of staff to Bill Clinton, believes aliens have been here) pens an op-ed calling Scott Pruitt (Destoryer of Worlds) “unfit for public office”:

Time after time, Pruitt has ignored his agency’s own data, analysis and recommendations in order to protect corporate polluters. He has given new meaning to the lobbyist revolving door, hiring people who have close connections to the industries that the EPA is supposed to regulate. And he wasted taxpayer money for his own personal comfort.
