After spending several years touring the country as a stand up comedian, Ed Brayton tired of explaining his jokes to small groups of dazed illiterates and turned to writing as the most common outlet for the voices in his head. He is now the owner of the popular blog, Dispatches from the Culture Wars. He has appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show and the Thom Hartmann Show, and is almost certain that he is the only person ever to make fun of Chuck Norris on C-SPAN. He recently revisited his comedic roots by developing the one-man show Stand Up Skeptic.
Ed speaks on topics of science and religion, particularly creation versus evolution; civil liberties and the war on terror; separation of church and state; and Stand Up Skeptic (a stand-up performance with PowerPoint that looks at the many amusements to be found in religion). His most recent talk is called Why Atheism is Not Enough. It’s a powerful plea to put humanist principles into action every day.
