Sheldon W. Helms is a professor of experimental psychology at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA, where he runs The Ohlone Psychology Speaker Series, hosting top-name skeptics, scientists, and authors who contribute to the teaching of critical thinking.
A longtime skeptic, Sheldon has spoken for dozens of secular and skeptical groups across the country about a variety of topics related to critical thinking, psychology, and skepticism.
Sheldon was a presenter at The Amazing Meeting in 2015, SkeptiCal in 2016, CSICon in 2017, and LogiCal Con in 2018. His areas of specialty include skepticism in psychology, critical thinking, LGBT issues, con artists, and counseling quackery. He considers his talk entitled “Straight Talk About Gay Conversion” to be his most important, highlighting abuses in the religious and psychological community against gay people in attempts to make them heterosexual.
Sheldon served as Vice President of the Bay Area Skeptics for eight years, has written for the James Randi Educational Foundation, and has contributed to several books on critical thinking such as Magic in the Classroom, a collection of tips for those teaching critical thinking in higher education.
