Get to know Bertha Vazquez, director of CFI’s TIES program, bringing accessible tools to enable educators across the country to provide a scientifically sound evolution curriculum to their students. She talks about the work of the teacher-run TIES program, as well as how evolution education goes beyond the classroom.
A 30-year veteran teacher, Bertha Vazquez is the recipient of several national and local honors, including the 2014 Samsung’s $150,000 Solve For Tomorrow Contest and the 2009 National Environmental Education Foundation Award. She has been the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Science Teacher of the year three times in her career. Bertha has been the director of The Teacher Institute for Evolutionary Science since 2015. TIES is a project of the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science. Thanks to her work with TIES, she was also the 2017 winner of the National Association of Biology Teachers Evolution Education Award.
